I volunteer for a ministry called Young Life which has been awesome! I have been playing my guitar at Young Life clubs every Wednesday night for 2 full years now, and this past year finally stepped up to be a volunteer leader. One of the greatest things is that I get to volunteer alongside one of my best friends Jason. Every winter they go away over MLK weekend and do a Friday night through Monday afternoon trip. This year we were at Lake Champion in Glen Spey, NY.
I had a great time getting to know the kids that we lead so much more. We had such a great group of guys in our cabin, and the girls that went on the trip we also really great. It felt like there was something to do every second of each day, and for a weekend I felt like I was back in high school (hard to believe that it was 10 years ago!!!!).
I was glad to see that someone from our group came to know the Lord, and I am praying that God continues to work in their heart as well as the others that came to know Him. This past weekend really helped put into perspective the joy that comes from working with people and being able to have an impact in their life...even if it doesn't feel like you are.
Some highlights were...
The club songs... the first night I was a little reserved, but clubs 2-5 I was letting loose and just having fun belting out the songs.
The club talks really got me thinking about my life, and it was refreshing to think about what God is doing in my life and the lives of the kids we are pouring into.
The food was good and the food was plenty.
Going for an early morning jog with Phil Carnuccio (if you don't know him, he is an amazing pastor from WC).
Leading alongside my brotha Jason Boyda!!!!
Cabin talks were legit.
Hangin in the ski lodge learning new games like; Nertz, Pshht, Sheep-Bong, and the Clapping Game.
Rocking out in Air Hockey and Foosball
Getting on Stage for the Minute To Win It and almost snapping my neck
And of course the bus rides to and from.
To help paint the picture here is just a little background info...probably close to 300 high school kids. Some awesomely crazy volunteer leaders, a passionate speaker, crazy staff leaders leading games and entertainment, and a rockin' house band. Put all that in a blender and you get a non-stop weekend of fun. Here are some pictures that I was able to snag:
