Adding Laminate "Tile" Flooring to the Entryway

There are six parts total to my little Holiday gifting to my wife. I will update a complete list of everything that I have done for her throughout December a little later, and there will be a Christmas post coming soon to recap Logan's first Christmas. But in the mean time here is the 4th out of 6 projects I wanted to complete for Renae in my pursuit of turning our house into a home.

When you first come to our house, the very first thing that you notice is our ugly blue siding. Since we are on a very tight budget, I don't foresee the siding getting replaced anytime soon...unless we can get some recruits together to help us rip off and install the new siding in the summer time (hint, hint to anyone out there who would either like to do demolition or installation).

So skip the ugly blue siding, the first thing you see when you come in (in our tiny entryway) was a scratched up, cheap faux wood laminate flooring. Then there was ugly quarter round, and missing baseboard and loose trim. Since I had just a tiny bit of brown paint left and some spare chair rail...that's right I updated the entryway. I also found a killer deal on some higher quality laminate flooring that was too good to pass up. Ready for this?....are you?...I was shocked...

I wanted to tile the floor by the door. Tile, backer board, mortar mix and grout was adding up to be out of our budget. But then Renae and I stumbled upon a real feel tile laminate flooring with seamless transitions. "Oh, but never mind because it's $80 a box." we thought. "But wait, it's on sale for $45 a box!" Then I noticed the color of the tag meant that it was on clearance. After buying what we needed, we thought it might look nice in the kitchen some day. So after measuring (very early) one morning, before work, I went to Shome Shmepot and bought the other boxes...this time for $36 a box!!!! I know it's a great deal. Ripped up the old floor and installed the new floor in about 2 hours. Looks nice, except for two spots that I fought a little bit with because of a tight spot...and I, being a perfectionist, and made at myself, but overall it looks nice.

Enough ranting, enjoy the picture walk:
If you recall from an earlier post, in order to move forward with settlement a wall needed to be built where the previously existing fire place was located. You no longer saw open studs anymore.
I have no idea when this picture was taken, but it was the only other actual before shot we had of this area.

Thanks to my father-in-law (and mother-in-law in the background) for all the work they helped us with during that initial move in week. I set a schedule for things, and had carpet set for installation and a move-in date set...and they helped us stay on target for everything. Thanks guys!
After adding the paint. Don't mind the drawing on the ceiling when I spent 6 hours one day just trying to run three wires from my attic to the panel box...still don't know where 2ft of that drill bit was going.

Breaking off baseboard and quarter round before the next floor gets installed.

What it looks like from the door with the ugly blue siding.

No more old laminate wood flooring! Just green foam and a vapor barrier.

The "New View" coming down the stairs.

Just a little touching up to do to be "complete". You can see the one seam I fought with to the left of Kadee's head...you win some and you lose some...this time the house got me :(
