Calling all family, friends, and blogger readers

Sports was a big part of my life from high school through college. Aspiring to be like my older brother when I was in middle school I decided to try out for the 8th grade soccer team. I was fat and slow, and the team needed players so I was a shoe in. However, I knew that I was not going to cut it for the high school teams. So in the summer of 1998, when I was 14 years old, I began working out over the summer and managing my weight to shed some pounds. I lost 74 pounds and earned a spot on the Varsity soccer team. I was a back up defender for my older brother, whom I held in very high esteem. My sophmore year Eric and I were starting left and right defenders. I was a starter both my junior and senior year as well, in addition to being a team captain each of those years.

I thought in college that I would take a break from soccer and focus on my 21 credit semester. After one year of that I realized that I needed to play for my college. I played for a local PSU campus for four years (yes it took me 5 to get through, bc I changed majors). My first year I was back-up to a strong defender but when he suffered an injury I started my first game and was a starting player straight through my final game. Three of those four years I was named co-captain alongside a very good friend, and excellent defender, and led with pride. All four years we made it into the playoffs and twice made it to the semi-finals.

So where does running tie in with soccer? Since my final game I have not really been back on the field or done much with any other sport. This past fall I picked up a new challenge for myself. That challenge was running. Whereas soccer was more something I competed in out of the passion that I myself had for the sport, now I am hitting the road I trying to find ways to do it for others. However, running races can become expensive and Renae and I are not really in a place right now to afford all these races. After having a conversation with my mother last weekend, she encouraged me to seek sponsorship for upcoming races which I hope to compete. I have the ability to run them and would love to run them on your behalf for a cause to benefit someone in need.

I have compiled a list of the races in which I would like to compete in this year, with the big goals being the Broad Street Run and the Philadelphia Half Marathon. If you would like to / feel led to sponsor me for one of these events please email me at kevin.e.reigner@gmail.com and we can discuss what that looks like.

These races that I have selected are near and dear to me as I have had loved ones that lost the fight to cancer, suffered, and ultimately taken, from arthritis, and taken away from ALS. Although these will be great feats in my life, ultimately I am thinking of them as I prepare and run the race.

Thank you for your considerations!
