| The Quad-fecta as I have named them...the four cards that will not be touched for the next month...or longer. |
No, I'm serious. I am talking about literally freezing my credit cards. I saw this idea posted on a blog before, and when I mentioned it to Renae she was like, "O yeah, I have heard about people doing that." Here is the reasoning behind it:
I am a cash spender, so when I have the cash I will spend it. As soon as the cash runs out, then there is nothing left to spend. Renae however has always been more of a plastic spender. She rarely has cash on her (well at this point, neither of us do) but she will use the debit/credit cards. Over the past 4 years that has rubbed off on me, but I don't have as much self-control as she does. I will spend a mix of cash and credit...when the cash is gone...cha-ching there is the credit!!!!
After paying off the Visa card and the Home Depot card today I am planning on freezing them along with a few others. The reason being is that it will really make me think about the next time that I need to use them. My goal is to have the cards frozen for the next month (30 days) before using them again, if I happen to go longer than that is a bonus. Now, I do understand that there are a few things automatically tied to the card like the cell phone bill, the cable bill and some other things like those. But, what this will do is decrease (or hopefully cut out) any of those binge buys. I won't be able to get that "good deal" while I am out at the store. The only area of temptation that I could see creeping up would be the Amazon.com purchases...but hopefully I can just exhibit some self control.
Anyways, there are four cards sitting on the ice right now; the Home
Depot (so there won't be any home updating/building project posts for at
least a month), the Visa (that's the guy that gets me in trouble), and
two bank cards (not that there is much to back them up anyways). There
is only one card that was exempted from the deep freeze plunge and that
is the gas card (those reasons are obvious). Wish me luck, and we shall
see if the ice pick will stay in the drawer until mid-February.

| After lining up the cards, I prepared a nice little bath for them. |
 |
| Then I situated the cards in their new home...a little more room than the wallet. |
 |
| At this part I started to feel mixed emotions about freezing these guys...actually no I didn't |
 |
| Their new home...I hope Renae doesn't eat them. |
 |
| Logan was interested in what I was doing, and when I told him that I couldn't buy him new clothes or toys for a little while he looked a little upset. |
 |
| Logan wanted to boycott the spending freeze by standing in the way of the freezer door, but then he realized we are doing this so that we can have a fun summer, or even better and awesome 1st birthday party!!! |
 |
| See you next month! |
needs a picture of a block of ice! (or are they frozen in the last picture?)
